February 2020

Dear Warder Families,

Welcome to February!  Every year, I am convinced that our school year could not fly by any faster, and yet it does!  With only 4 months left of this school year, there is still a lot of teaching and learning to do, and, of course, our students are up for the challenge!  I am so incredibly proud of our students, staff, and our greater wildcat community, and I know we are continuing to make this year the best one yet!  I am glad that you are all along for the ride!

Choice Enrollment Updates…

The first round of choice enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year has now closed.  Thank you to everyone who took the time to let us know your intentions for next year.  If you know of families who might be interested in Warder, but did not apply in the first window, the second round choice enrollment window opened Tuesday, January 21st and runs through August.  Please encourage them to reach out to our school as space is limited.

2020/2021 Budget Updates…

In early January, schools received their 2020-2021 budget allocations.  Because of the uncertainty in state funding for education, principals have been tasked with creating two budgets; one budget built on current allocation, and another budget built based on a potential reduction (approximately $22,000).  At this time, the district is hopeful that all schools will be able to move forward with our current allocation, but time will tell as the Governor’s proposal winds through the legislature this spring.

The first process of student based budgeting (SBB) is to look at staffing needs in our building.  Once we take into account those staffing needs based on our enrollment, as well as stakeholder priorities from our survey, we can then look at allocating dollars for materials.  As expected, the greater majority of our annual budget is spent on staffing our school.  Although we are still finalizing our budget and changes are still possible throughout this spring, it appears that we will be able to maintain our staffing and support many of our stakeholder priorities with either possible budget.  I will share updates throughout the spring.

 Coffee with the Principal Updates…

Thank you for your patience as I connect with possible guests to speak at our upcoming coffee with the principal events.  Based on feedback from families, I have been able to line up some great speakers!   Our next coffee event is scheduled for Friday, February 7th beginning at 8:30.  We will be hearing from our Jeffco School Board member, Brad Rupert.  On March 6th, we’ll be hearing from our Food Services support team!  I hope that you can make our next events.  Also, please reach out if you have ideas of other speakers you would like to hear at a future event!

Thank you…

Thank you for trusting Warder to educate your students!  This is work that our entire Warder team takes very seriously.  My top priority is to be available to you any time to share your questions, concerns, and ideas.  You can reach me by phone (303) 982-0202, by email,, or connect with me in person.  This work is far too great and we’re in this together.
